Hey-oh

The guitars and all that were great. I dont know about the vocals. Should work on mastering them a different way or adding a different effect to them? They seem to stand out in a weird way.

Either or, love the guitars and the samples. : D

TwilightNecrosis responds:

Hey there!
Yeah, I've gotten better at effecting vocals since I recorded this.
This was just to give you an example of my guitar work.
What samples, by the way?

I know..i know

Its really crap of me to not really 'review' your music.

but saying its "awesome" is my way of reviewing. I know you know what your doing. So there's no need to tell you anything. It all sounds nice.

nubbinownz responds:

same to you man, your production skills are lightyears foward.

BIG HAIR

haha nice. I had to hear it when i saw the title. It indeed, reminds me of the eights and some chick in leg warmers, big hair, some gaudy earings dancing around real enthusiastically. I have nothing bad to say about this. Loops nicely. Good job!

DjZombAid responds:

Lol, nice explanation xD.
Thanks ^^.

Wow

Awesome Job. Just awesome. Its cool to see you applying yourself to other genre's / mixing them. Thats always a good fun idea. This sounds great. I'd hope to hear more! Maybe even mix that nice piano and strings in the background with some even harder drums. That'd be even more wild.

good job!

Of course, keep it up.

No1r responds:

Hey!
Yes it's always fun to work in that direction and i tried, here, to mix something sweet with a pretty fast rythm. You're right, drums could be more harder, Rig told me too eheh.
Anyway, i really appreciate your review and the time you spent listening my works.
Thank you my friend.

Well done

Very nice, real light and airy, fun too. My only qualm really are the assorted FL sounds. Its hard to go unnoticed since i use it so much, hah. Its arranged nicely, a bit on the long side. Thats not too big a problem though, its an ambient piece and it has a fair amount of variation in it. I do wish this had a real bass though : (
or just a different bass sound. Its got that very synthetic bass to it. Thats not much of a big deal though i guess. Just things to change the overall feel. Not a bad job. Also, i swear i heard some light keys of some sort here and there, you should turn that up! :D Your hitting all the musical genre's! whats next!?

oh yeah: there was a sound at like 3:20 a whooshing ambient synth that i did like, how'd you get that?

PearlDrummer516 responds:

Yeah, I actually wrote this song after recently hearing Stewart Copeland's arrangements on the first three Spyro the Dragon games. Stewart Copeland is the drummer for the world-famous band, "The Police". He also does a lot of scoring and other side projects as well. He was raised in many different parts of the world, and so he's a very talented drummer when it comes to world percussion as well, and he uses a lot of these sounds in his productions. It made me want to try a song with a lot of percussion, so I used corny FL preset samples :p To me, Boo Bass was the most realistic sound I could get. As far as light keys? I'm not sure what you mean. Elaborate a bit?

By the way, that sound effect you liked is called Stellium.

Thanks again mate for the awesome review!

Nice!

The drumming in the background is really nice (is that you?) This track is really not too bad. Sounds like backing music to some RPG. Would go well for some fantasy based flash. Should make some more classical stuff! : D
I dont have too much bad to say. The violin / cello sound i wish was real : (
thats about it. Also, I'd almost say turn up all of the drums, the snares, the crashes, etc. / make the crashes more epic!?

PearlDrummer516 responds:

Ah no, the drumming is not me, I could play it, if only I had some mics :( But yeah, this was my first ever classical song, and it turned out pretty good. My friend actually helped me make some of the violin parts, and they sound absolutely great I might add. Yeah, I wish they were real too, nothing can substitute true human expression and emotion on an instrument, although the Cello sounds quite good. Thank you for the review good sir :)

'allo

Not too bad, mate. The bass, (Which i understand is supposed to be intense) sounds a bit to intense, hah. It may just be me, but its mastering seems to drown out the sounds that are in the mix with it. If you were to turn it down just a bit or master things out a bit more i think it'd sound a bit better? Thats just my personal opinion! Otherwise everything else is pretty nice. (not generally my style of music). I did really like the bit from about 4 minutes to end. The bass was a little less in the way and made for a nice audible sound. It even got into the whole euro 'jump' sound a bit when everything kicked in. Keep it up. Good job!

PearlDrummer516 responds:

Hey thanks for the review man, I'm really glad you enjoyed it. I do agree with you on the bass thing now that you mention it, I'll have to go back and fix that and it will probably sound a lot more equalized. I wanted a song with an action packed feel to it, but also to have a change in it. I guess I succeeded, but it turned into "happy action", "happy jump bounce action" haha. I love the Fry effect, what can I say. Thanks for the advice mate.

too cluttered

This song has a bunch of nice sounds going on. Once everything kicks in though there's far too much dissonance between all the instruments. The drums dont seem to fit all to well either / are too quite. Instruments need to be separated. Its too jumbled at points. At least the sounds aren't bad, that'd be more knocks off of it. Some parts sound alright, some parts sound good, others aren't so good. Ah well. Pull it all together and it could be something really nice.

kjarnold responds:

THanks mate, trying to make it tighter, but like I said, I am not a great mixer but I appreciate the feedback.

Yay

pretty cool, nice and sadly peaceful. I really liked the battle sound effects thrown in there. I'm surprised you dont submit this in the ambient genre, its pretty ambient. The piano in the beginning didnt sit well with me - that plugin is far to recognized. Er at least to a user of fl. I'd advise looking into a different piano plugin / messed around a bit more with it. It didnt seem to fit in as well as the other bits did.

I liked it at 1:45 when the synth arpy pads came in. yay.

Not bad though. I liked the sort of ancient vibe the whole song had. It could probably even be used in a sci-fi setting too! anyhow, cool stuff.

wyldfyre1 responds:

I actually thought of it. For a while though i wasn't 100 percent sure my stuff was ambient haha. I'm more confedent that it is now though hearing some of the other ambient songs on newgrounds. I'll probably move away from that FL keys paino sound trust me.. may even re submit this with a different sounding piano. Thanks for the review!

Loved Mass Effect so much

not so much 80's sci-fi - but its got a nice flavor to it - i could really see this being used in a sci-fi game. This is a really well put together track. Personally, the piano is the only the thing that sort of throws the whole thing off (as in, piano is not very sci-fi) but, dont get me wrong, its very beautiful composed. I just think you should perhaps make that melody more synthy? I dunno, thats just me though. Very lovely track!

Hooray for mass effect.

AvatarKami responds:

Hey thanks for the review. Yeah I'd love to get this in a game, sci-fi or otherwise. I myself was a bit skeptical about putting in the piano section myself, but I thought that with the backing of the sci-fi texture made it slightly better. Unfortunately I don't have access to some better programming. I may re-release this with more synths later. Thanks for the nice comments. Mass Effect rules.
